If you’re looking to rediscover an old classic, these mods are sure to do the trick. This works to the advantage of Rome specifically, as it is one of the most diverse Total War games out there.īeing a favorite among the fandom, there is no shortage of extra content for the game. Cramming in every little idea you could possibly think of. Rome: Total War was the 3rd release from developers The Creative Assembly.Īs many say, earlier releases tend to be less refined and more ambitious. This is one of the earliest iterations of the game, and a big fan favourite. I don't know about a campaign map but creating some units, as long as someone is up to creating the models, could work for just a multiplayer and custom battle ACW mod. Some fans would argue that no games have topped Rome: Total War. 12-pounder Napoleon and 3-inch Ordnance Rifle models have been incorporated into that FoTS artillery unit pack, so those could be used in an ACW mod.

People have figured out how to get bayonets to work, although they are not the common type used in the ACW.īreech-loading artillery was rare in the ACW, most guns were muzzleloaders. Also there is a lack of proper models, someone would have to take the time to make the models needed. I could never get voices to change, bayonets on the rifles, clothes to change color, etc.

I did attempt to create a Confederate unit with the official modding tools, although I am no experienced modder so it didn't work out well. I have created a few ACW maps with the official TEd mapping tools (Fredericksburg, Fort Wagner, and the Crater) and they came out pretty well.

The Great War mod included freaking TANKS, WITHOUT modding tools or modding support.īAI is better than in previous games, i don`t understand why you complain about that. I am not sure if government features can be modded, but i have seen a lot harder things included in (warscape) Total Wars. Everyone who knows how to play should do it manually. Models are easy to do (if that is your specialty), and voice acting can be ported from Napoleon/Empire Total War (or i think so).Īnd WHY do you think light infantry behaviour is important? All it does is get your guys killed. Wrong, there are bayonets in Fall of Samurai, but they are not used becouse animations are same as for Napoleon Total war, so CA decided to use those stupid katanas. It can shoot across the whole Shogun 2 battlefield.). Not to mention the missing Empire government features, the stupid BAI and the tiny battlefields (a French chassepot had an effective range of 1200m. I don't know if modders can implement all of them, but the important light infantry behaviour can't be activated according to my tests. The game lacks proper animations, models, voices, bayonets, the "light infantry behaviour" button and other stuff. Shogun 2 was made for Medieval Japan, and not modern Europe. Lets see if we can get this to work.Īs much as I would love to see a Franco-Prussian war mod, I don't think this would work. I don't expect this to be easy to do and I don't know all that much about modding just that its been pretty impossible to mod the campaign map up until shogun 2.

As much as I like the ACW mod for Empire total war its really lacking because empire is pretty unstable and glitch. This coupled along with the new gun loading animations and the Fact that FOTS is set only 1 year after the American Civil War this has the potential to be the first Total Conversion for Shogun 2 not set in Japan. Ironclad warships and even Railroads that could be used as an in game resource. With the edition of FOTS we now have all new assets and voices which would work perfectly in a American Civil War setting. This looks really great and shows that the campaign map could eventually be edited to add new continents. After lurking around the forums for a while I stumbled across this thread which shows the campaign map being edited by uanime5 and it shows a map of Europe with what looks like no textures.
